To Accelerate Geological Information Services, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Launches Indonesia Geological Portal

In order to facilitate and accelerate geological information services in Indonesia to the public and stakeholders, the Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) launched the Indonesian Geological Portal. This innovation is a transformation of public services in the form of providing information.

This transformation in public services is one of the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to realize quality public services, namely by providing easy access to the public to obtain the information they need.

"The development of technology and information facilitates the process of digitizing quality public services. The Indonesian Geological Portal is part of the transformation of public services in the form of providing information on stratigraphic lexicon, sedimentary basins, geological heritage and maps throughout Indonesia," said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif, when launching the Indonesian Geological Portal today, Friday (28/1).

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, continued Arifin, has the mandate to ensure the availability of energy and mineral resources in national development. In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Geological Agency provides data and information services for geological and geophysical surveys, as well as conducting investigations and mapping to produce data, information and maps in various themes and scales. The role of public services is increasingly important in supporting the development of national infrastructure which is currently being carried out on a massive scale.

"This can be seen in geological-based spatial planning activities so that it can reduce the risk due to geological disasters," said Arifin.

Deputy Chairperson of Commission VII DPR RI Maman Abdurrahman who was present at this event also appreciated the efforts made by the Geological Agency to provide easy access for the public to reach geological information.

"As the Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, I really appreciate as high and as much as possible for the modernization efforts carried out by the Geological Agency, in this case to create an Indonesian portal. For me, this is a positive step in order to enter the new era or a new era after this pandemic," said Maman.

According to Maman, after the pandemic, personal and institutional behavior experienced very significant shifts and changes.

"The geological portal is a form of shift or adaptation to the challenges of the times which I think we need to respond positively and support," said Maman.

In addition to giving appreciation, Maman also asked the Geological Agency to continue to evaluate and improve the quality of data and information contained in the Indonesian Geology portal. One of the benefits of this geological portal is that it makes it easier for actors in the geological field to access all things related to geological information in Indonesia.

"Therefore, I think it is important and good that it needs to be improved, evaluations must be carried out on the performance of this portal, because in the future, of course, challenges and problems and needs will be higher," said Maman.

For information, the Geological Survey Center, Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has conducted geological and geophysical surveys, investigations and mappings throughout Indonesia which are summarized in the Indonesian geological database. These activities have resulted in a large number of basic geological data, thousands of publications and 4,756 geological and geophysical maps in various themes and scales.

These products can be physically accessed by the public and the wider community at the Central Geological Survey Library. The geological library at the Geological Survey Center stores geological data and information from all parts of Indonesia which has been collected since the Dutch colonial era.

The Indonesian Geology Portal is part of the transformation of public services in the form of providing geological information consisting of the stratigraphic lexicon, geomap, geoheritage (geological heritage) and sedimentary basins. The stratigraphic lexicon presents basic data of 1,856 lithostratigraphic units throughout Indonesia derived from published geological maps. To see the distribution of these lithostratigraphic units in a geospatial view, the public can open a geomap. Geomap, not only provides maps in raster format, but also geological maps in vector form. Users can download the required maps directly. For people who want to access the Indonesian geological portal, they can access it at the address https://geologi.esdm.go.id/geolindo.
