The Potential of Indonesia's Oceans That Have not been Used Optimally

Indonesia internationally has nearly 6,000,000 km square of sea bed mining and this sea bed mining in Indonesia has not been utilized optimally. The sea bed mining is found in almost all parts of Indonesia, both in the north, east and south of Indonesia." Sea bed mining is Indonesia's target for exploration.

Indonesia is one of the largest countries in the world with a total country area of 5,193,250 km2 which includes land and sea. As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has a very wide ocean which is around 3,273,810 km2. Indonesia has very large mining reserves and is still stored in the ocean due to limited exploration activities.

Reserves stored in the ocean can be in the form of oil and natural gas or minerals and coal. The figures for oil and gas reserves owned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources currently show proven reserves of oil at 3,602.53 MMSTB, while potential reserves are at 3,702.49 MMSTB. It is believed that these reserve figures can still be increased if exploration activities are carried out on a massive scale.

In addition to oil and natural gas, mineral potentials are also found in many places in the Indonesian seas. Minerals that have economic value will be found in potential quantities in the northern waters of Sulawesi and Maluku because the topography of the seabed is the same as in Papua New Guinea, which is known to be rich in seabed mineral resources. . The seabed mining resources in Papua New Guinea contain copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver. Its exploitation reaches 200 tons per day.

In the Sunda Strait in the area of tumbling and tearing at the confluence of continental plates at that location. From that research, it is known that there is no active hydrothermal. However, the team of scientists found indications of gold in Semangko Bay near an undersea volcano that is no longer active. The mountain close to Tabuan Air Island is called Mount Tabuan Air. The gold content at that location is about 5 parts per billion or 0.5 grams per tonne.

Indonesia as a maritime country that has a territorial area dominated by the sea should put the potential of the sea for welfare as a priority. The breadth of Indonesia's oceans brings blessings to the Indonesian people. The natural resources contained in the oceans are very large and this of course can be used for the welfare of the Indonesian people.
