The Analysis SWOT Mineral and Coal Mining Sector in Indonesia

 


Facing the challenge of the Global Competition,  it requires a policy and a new breakthrough new for Indonesia, especially for mineral and coal mining that have high competitiveness and being able to dominate the market, including innovation, upgrading technology, support for financial institutions, improvement of infrastructure and logistics, the development of supporting industries, policy on the export of value added products, and the increase in raw material processing machinery, energy support, availability of information.

A policy and a new breakthrough new for Indonesia, especially for mineral and coal mining is by analyzing secondary data and literature study using analysis of Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threat ( SWOT).

The SWOT analysis should show; what strategy should be taken by the mineral and coal mining sector in Indonesia; 

  • Strategy Strength and Opportunity; how to utilize qualified and professional human resources and how to take advantage of the use of modern technology to utilize Indonesia's mineral and coal resources and reserves 
  • Strategy Strength and Threat; how to take advantage of modern technology to face the threat of high global competition and how to use modern technology to deal with shortage of raw material input 
  • Strategy Weakness and Opportunity; strategies on how to improve all weaknesses, including improving infrastructure, overcoming energy shortages, producing competitive products, improving the supply of raw materials 
  • Strategy Weakness and Threat; how to accelerate infrastructure development, energy development to produce competitive products and how to deal with shortage of raw materials 

The results of the SWOT analysis can be used as input to take steps and policies in entering the mining business in Indonesia. From the results of the analysis of internal factors, namely all the strengths and weaknesses of the sector Indonesian mining, as well as factor analysis external all the opportunities and threats that Indonesia's mining sector will face from other countries, then It is recommended that all the strengths Indonesia's mining sector to be more empowered and improved everything ability to seize opportunities and turn opportunity into strength thus providing the possibility for Indonesia's mining sector to progress faster. The strategy that must be taken is resource mobilization which is strength by overcoming all weaknesses to seize opportunities and eliminate threats, so threats and weaknesses into opportunities.
